Frequently Asked Questions
• What are the benefits of pavingstones?
In addition to the unique look and beauty of pavingstones, pavers also offer many other benefits. Pavingstones are installed on a layer of base (gravel used under roads) and bedding sand. Once the pavers are laid, joint sand is swept between them and this creates an interlock. Pavers rarely crack because their interlock alows the stones to have some flexibility when the ground level changes due to tree roots or earthquakes. If a pavingstone does get damaged or stained, it can also be broken out and replaced, making repairs much easier than standard concrete.
• What is joint sand?
Joint sand is a special type of sand that is applied in between pavingstones to create an interlock. What makes joint sand so important is that the individual grains are angled in ways that allow them to fit together like a puzzle, this lets the stones move slightly instead of cracking like standard concrete.
• How are pavingstones cleaned?
Pavingstones can be hosed down for simple cleaning or for a deeper clean they can be powerwashed and then have joint sand reapplied. Pavingstone sealer can also help protect the pavers from staining and make routine cleaning easier, to find out more about sealer click here.

All of the problem of cracking and maintenance that you run in with regular concrete will also be present in stamped concrete.
